Beagle-Harrier

A Beagle-Harrier is more like a cross between a Beagle and a Harrier. They are bigger than a Beagle and a little smaller than Harrier. They were bred in France during the early 19th century by a man named Baron Gerard. They were bred to hunt deer or hare in packs. They are a rare breed all around the world these days, and even in the country they first happened to originate in.
They happen to be more like a medium sized foxhound, but with shorter muzzle and broader head. They come in many different colour coats, but the most occurring one is of a tri colour of white with black and light brown inserts. It’s a white coat with patches of black and brown hair here and there. These coloured hairs of brown and black appear on them at different points in their lives as they grow up. They definitely aren’t born with the same patterns and colour combinations on them. These colours combinations tend to change on them gradually and in some cases they happen to lose the black hair completely.
Beagle-Harriers in general have a very even temper. The Beagle-Harrier is a sweet tempered and a cheerful breed. They are very tolerant and hence are great when around with children too. Socialising with other dogs is also something that they like to do. These dogs like to be active and hence tend to go exploring and sniffing around a lot. Always make sure you have them on a tight leash or at least in a safe and enclosed open ground. They always prefer a day spent with a house full of people. They are merry as for everyday dogs and of just the right amount of being timid and aggressiveness. They love being in company of the humans and even strangers can win over them easily with a little treat of their liking and hence they are one of the last breeds you could expect to be a guard dog. They still are good watch dogs till date as they happen to howl or bark when something less out of the ordinary happens to catch their attention.
The Beagle-Harrier requires a lot exercise as a part of its daily routine. They prefer long walks and long runs. You can allow them to run around and play in open grounds and fields as long as they are fenced and enclosed. These breed of dogs like to combine the daily exercise with lots of fun. Without their daily dose of fun and exercise, they tend to be overweight easily. There are also chances of them being hyper active and destructive. This breed was bred to work and run around all day and will not be happy if they stay indoors all day long. They were mainly developed to track down rabbit and deer and often prefer to hunt around in packs. Their sense of smell is very sharp and they are very are very good in tracking down the prey.
