Billy

Billy

The Billy is type of hound and they originated in France. They weigh around 55 to 60 pounds. They are pretty big dogs and they stand tall at 61 to 67 cm. The coat on them is smooth and short. The colours they happen to be in are of only one type that is pure white. But each are differentiated from the other by the orange and lemon coloured spots they have on their head and different parts of the bodies. They are recognised by the kennel club’s of France, the F C I.

They are a large sized dog with a coat of nothing but smooth and silky hair. They tend to have exceptional hunting skills, and can hunt even the big games like deer and bear. They are also equipped with a great sense of smell like most scent hounds. They don’t fall very sick and are very strong as a breed. They have big long legs that help them attain good speed while running and this also enables to cover a great distance with ease. They were bred originally for hunting and trailing hare. But later they were also used to hunt down wild boar.

The coats they come in are pure white, and if the dogs are being used as working dogs, they tend t get dirty a lot sooner. Hence the working Billy will need to be given a bath every once in a while to make them looking fresh and clean. Their smooth coat also comes with markings of orange or lemon’s tan at different parts of their body, but its blends well with the white and isn’t too intense. They are very solidly built and muscular. They are very powerful and still manage to be elegant at the same time. Their body structure is more like a lean mean one. They have a very thin head as compared to the rest of the body and also have a squared snout.

These are large hunting dogs and happen to be direct descendants of Larye, Ceris and Montemboeuf breed of French dogs which are now extinct. The Billys were used for hunting purposes and were bred by Monsieur Gaston Hublot du Rivault. They used to hunt in packs and still continue to do this in and around France. They were established as a proper breed in 1886 as pure hunting dogs. They aren’t meant for the indoors. If you are looking for a pet to have indoors all the time, then the Billy isn’t the one for you. If you have a back yard and are someone who likes taking the dogs on their daily morning walks, then Billy is definitely the one for you. Since they are of hunting pedigree they can run fast, really fast. They are an aggressive and an intelligent breeds and do not go well with other dogs and other house pets at all. The males are the ones who get aggressive with other males of the same breed very easily.
