Carolina dog

The American Dingo also known as the Carolina Dog is a dog of medium size that was seen in the isolated parts of the South Eastern United States. Though this breed shares many similarities in appearance with the Dingo, they do have some characteristic features that enabled their survival all those years in the swampy forests of the Southern states.
The Carolina Dog has nicely developed straight back which is of medium length. They have a structured chest leading to a beautifully tucked tummy that gives them the illusion of sharing ancestry with hounds. This breed of dog has a nice long neck with a head shaped like a wedge. Their jaws are strong and powerful while their eyes are soft and dark with an always alert and intelligent expression. Their eyes are shaped like almonds. They have erect, large and high set years that have easy mobility. The Carolina Dog has a very toned and muscular body with free, agile and strong movements making it quite a powerful dog. These dogs move with drive and are able to turn very easily showing great flexibility. Their distinct tails are a characteristic feature of the dog. The tail is somewhat like a fish hook carried depending on the mood of the dog. The tail is however never left hanging or loose.
The Carolina Dog is seen in shades of cream, lighter red and deep ginger red. They have pale beige marks on their sides, shoulders and muzzle with the underside having even paler shading. These dogs have a double layered coat that is thick and short with some longer strands of hair on the neck and behind the legs. The hair tends to stand up straight when the dog is suddenly aroused or alert. The Carolina Dog should look like a sturdy animal that blends in naturally with its surroundings and is capable of surviving for years in the wild. These dogs are hardy, capable and strong. Their coat is never trimmed. These dogs stand at 41 to 65 cms tall and weigh 15 to 20 kgs.
The Carolina dog is truly a wild dog with some of them still existing peacefully in the wild. This is one reason for these dogs being very shy and not enjoying much handling. Although if these dogs are socialized with other animals and lots of people at a young age, they become great companions to their owners. The Carolina Dog makes a loving and loyal pet. They have an adaptable personality and enjoy being part of a family. This social and gentle dog loves children and will happily play games and run around with them. This breed is very intelligent and clean making them easy to train and they are very quick learners. They are very closely bonded with their own family and dislike strangers.
The Carolina dog should not remain cooped up in an apartment. They should have lots of space to run around. They live for about 12 to 14 years.
