Cesky Fousek is a gun dog and belongs to the wirehaired pointer family of Continental Europe. This dog can be trained to work in a variety of terrain like water, fields or the forest. It is easily distinguishable by its unique beard and moustache. It also has deep set eyes and a sideburn.

The coat of a Cesky Fousek has three different types of hair. It has a tight undercoat which is waterproof, an over coat and the wiry hair on the back, chest, shoulder, etc. the undercoat allows it to hunt in water. It has white and brown hair which can look like a shade of grey. The dark muzzle may or may not have dark liver markings. It can also have a white spot on the breast. The nose leather should always be brown.

With a muscular body and a deep chest, it stands with a long neck and its head held high. When it is alert and listening to the game, its tail will be horizontal to the ground. This dog has a serious expression with its bristly eyebrows, and sits in a high, bow backed position. Even though it has a narrow head and a long muzzle, the whiskers give its face a square profile. The color of its eyes can vary form a dark amber color to deep chestnut.

This dog is healthy and occurrences of dysplasia are rare. Baldness is the common complaint among its owners. He is a keen worker and is very eager to please. It can be trained to persistently follow a scent. He is very loyal and devoted to its owner and can also be kept as a family dog. They make good companions to children. They can also be raised with other pets at home if they are brought home together.

It enjoys hunting and has a natural ability to point and track game. It can hunt both upland game and waterfowl. There is a visible difference in height among male and female Cesky Fousek. They love people and keeping them away from people will not sit well with them. Lack of exercise can make them destructive.

This breed is very easy to train. If they aren’t socialized well, they can become reserved with strangers. It adapts well to any climate. You should have a yard where they can run freely and at least a 6 foot tall fence. If they get bored, they may try to escape. They make ideal pets for an athletic family and enjoy jogs and any outdoor activity.

Their average life expectancy is 12 to 15 years. Cesky Fousek is very easy to maintain and regular brushing is all it needs. If taken to water fowl hunting, its coat must be dried thoroughly. It is not a heavy shedder and can be kept inside homes without any trouble. This is a gundog and expects exercise hence makes a very happy hunting companion. Its calm inside the house makes it a great house pet too.
