English foxhound

The English foxhound belongs to the fox hound family consisting of three other similar breeds of dogs. They are primarily scent hounds and were bred for fox hunting purposes. The English foxhound is a very clean cut yet elegant dog. They are very athletic animals. They have a wide skull with a nice long muzzle. They have a long, far reaching neck with rather strong hindquarters. They have large round eyes exhibiting a very sweet serene expression. They have flat lying ears placed on the side of the head. Their ears flow downwards to their necks. Their ears are quite rounded towards the bottom which is well suited for a hunting dog. This will avoid any tears or nicks appearing during a hunting expedition.
The English foxhound has perfectly straight legs with cat like rounded feet. They have a hard, short and east to care for coat. This coat is usually seen in a tri color tan, white and black. They can also have just a bi-color coat with a background of white. The color however of this hound is not very important in terms of the show ring. Their eyes are usually quite large and brown in color. They have pendant shaped ears. Their entire face has a very appealing and gentle expression to it. The tail is of medium length and is usually held up in happiness at all times. Their tail has very slight curve to it but is mostly quite straight in its appearance.
The coonhound is a passionate, bold and active hunter. They are very obedient and respond well to their masters, although the training process does require quite a bit of patience on the owners part. They are exceptional around children and are friendly around everyone else. They do however prefer being around other dogs. They will make fine companion for homes with other non canine pets as well. They will however require supervision around these animals. They love to run and have excellent stamina and speed. They will go trotting along at the same speed through several tricky trails just following and interesting scent. They are very active during their young years and will be happy to laze around once they are around 7 or 8 years. Most of the energy gets used up as a young dog and hence retirement at 7 or 8 is welcomed.
These dogs require a lot of mental and physical stimulation. With the right amount of exercise, care and training they can make wonderful companions. The owner needs to be very loving and active to keep this dog happy. They will need a good long jog on a daily basis. The owners of this dog need to be quite firm and set certain rules for the dog that will remain consistent throughout. These dogs stand at 56 to 63 cm tall and weigh 29 to 32 kg. They have a life expectancy of about 10 years. This breed sheds a moderate amount of hair.
