FINNISH HOUND

Known since the 18th century, the Finnish Hound was developed by using a variety of English, German, Swiss and native Scandinavian hounds. Although the breed is popular and widespread in Finland, he is uncommon elsewhere. After hunting hare and fox with his master in the summer, he spends the long winters warm and cozy indoors with the family. He is rarely exhibited.
He is a rangy yet strongly boned hound much like a large foxhound. Probably a gift from his German ancestors, his singular ears are large with stiff cartilage, making them stand out somewhat from the head. He is friendly and calm in temperament, yet energetic in the hunt.
