German Wire-haired Pointer

German Wire-haired Pointer

The German Wire-haired Pointer is one of the leading hunting dogs from Germany. The German Wire-haired Pointer is a medium sized dog, but is very muscular, strong and sturdy at the same time. The most characteristic feature of the dog is its coat of wire-haired fur, which is thick and water resistant and helps keep the dog warm on a cold day and dry on a wet day. The German Wire-haired Pointer has an undercoat which changes with the seasons. During summers when it is hot, the undercoat is so thin that it is almost invisible. On the other hand, during winters when it is very cold, the undercoat becomes thick in order to insulate the dog against the chill.

The outer coat of the German Wire-haired Pointer is short enough that its outline is very clear, and at the same time, it is long enough to ensure that the dog it protected. It tends to be wiry and hard and lays flat on the surface. It is usually one or two inches in length. The legs of the dog have a shorter layer of hair and the hair between its toes is almost fine. The hair on the top of its head is short and close to the skull. The fur on the shoulders and the back is thick and strong. There is a lot of fur on the tail as well, but there are no feathers on the tail. The German Wire-haired Pointer also has strong eyebrows, whiskers and beard.

The German Wire-haired Pointer come in a variety of colors, including many shades of brown, black, roan with or without patches.

The forequarters of the German Wire-haired Pointer have an excellent reach whereas the hindquarters have great driving power. The German Wire-haired Pointer is a very energetic and powerful breed and needs a lot of physical exercise and exertion, without which they may become unruly and difficult to train. The German Wire-haired Pointer is also an all-round dog when it comes to hunting. It not only points, but can also track and retrieve the game. It is comfortable hunting on land and in water.

The German Wire-haired Pointer is a very affectionate dog and makes for a great family pet. However, it is important for the owner to give this dog a lot of time and attention when it is young or the temperament of the dog may not turn out to be suitable. They need to be socialized with other people and other dogs while they are still young or they tend to stay aloof at all times. They are very happy around people they know and are on their best behavior around the family and the people they know. The German Wire-haired Pointer is also very good with children, but may be risky around babies and toddlers, because of their energetic as well as jealous nature. They also make great watch dogs. They are happiest when they are around people they love and are given adequate exercise and training.
