Grand Anglo-Français Tricolore

Grand Anglo-Français Tricolore

The Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolore is a type of scenthound used primarily for hunting. They never hunt alone and always prefer to hunt in packs with fellow Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolores. They originated from the English (Anglo) foxhounds and the French scenthounds. They have all the characteristics and features of a normal hound such as the long ears, and the long legs and the long tail. The coat on these dogs is a tri-color one. It’s made of short white hair with black and tan markings on them. They stand tall at around 24 to 28 inches (60 to 72cm) for a fully grown adult. A healthy and fit Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolore would weigh anywhere between 76 to 78 pounds (34.5 to 35.5 kg).

The Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolores are said to be direct descendents of the Foxhounds and the Tricolored Poitevins. It is also very obvious that the Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolores have descended from these dogs when you consider the compact and strong stature which is very much like those of the Foxhounds. Since they hunt in packs, they are very well capable of hunting down large pray such as the Boar and the Rose Deer. They remain agile and nimble enough when hunting in packs to hunt the smaller games such as Foxes which happen to be very quick around the corners. This way of hunting they have, which is hunting in packs, is what got them the name “Grand” and it is not anything to do with their sizes.

The Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolores are recognized by the French Kennel Club (Société Centrale Canine). They are also recognized internationally under the Group 6 Scenthounds by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale. These dogs are not meant for the show circuit, these dogs are only bred to be pure hunting dogs. These dogs are a rare breed in North America, but there are people who look forward to importing these dogs from France just so that they get to have a unique pet. They are also registered over the internet by dog registry businesses and minor Kennel Clubs in North America.

The Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolores are full of hunting instincts, and giving them a daily round of exercise is the least one can do. They do not adapt well indoors or family life in the city as they are born hunters and have been used to being in the open places generation after generation. These dogs are well natured and obedient, but it is never advisable to let them off the leash because of their hunting pedigree. The tan on their bodies is sometimes a shade of red, and the black markings are sometimes brown in color too. The Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolores do not have any major health problems like the other hunting dogs do. Most hunting dogs normally face problems with their hips and legs due to the daily work they do all year long, but the Grand Anglo-Francais Tricolores are said to be an extraordinary healthy breed.
