The Greenland dog is a Danish breed of dog that was first seen in Greenland, Denmark. They are a husky type of dog that is a fairly large breed. This breed of dog has a double layered coat that is resistant to harsh weather conditions. The outer coat of this breed is standoff and thick and the undercoat has a thick covering of wool-like fur. This unique coat allows the dog to stay out in temperatures as low as -50 to even -75 degrees Fahrenheit. Their ears are triangular in shape and rather small in size. This feature protects these dogs from frostbite. They have broad robust heads that are in the wedge shape. These dogs have very powerful jaws. Their tales are bushy and large and curled over the back of the dog protecting the dogs face when they are asleep. These dogs have nicely feathered legs with thickly furred toes with large pads.

They have a loyal temperament with typical Nordic qualities. The Greenland dog is very good in a large team of dogs; they don’t usually have an opportunity to develop a very strong relationship with just one master. They Greenland dog is somewhat rowdy, boisterous and self willing in their play. This breed of dog will not be content simply lazing around the house the entire day. They are originally a working breed and need vigorous activity to remain content.

The Greenland dog stands at 56-64 cm tall and weighs anywhere between 30 and 32 kg. These dogs are very healthy and suffer from very few illnesses. They have a life expectancy of around 13 years. The Greenland dog is not at all suited for life in an apartment. They need lots of space to run around and play. This breed of dog needs to be constantly physically and mentally challenged and are happiest when given a job to do.
