Griffon Fauve de Bretagne

The Griffon Fauve de Bretagne is a medium sized dog which originated in France in a region called Brittany. The dog is 48 to 56 cm (19-22 in), same for males and females, with a distinctive rough pale coat, long drop ears, and a long tail carried up and in a slight curve. The body is short backed. The breed has a lean body with a bony and muscular physique. Color of the coat can be any shade of fawn from golden to red.
The breed is a good hunting dog, still used in France to hunt boar, but is also a good family dog since they can be very affectionate once they get attached and used to the family. They have been exported to different countries now since they are gaining popularity and they have been reportedly shipped to other countries.
There are no reported health diseases for this breed. They can be kept healthy by maintaining a regular exercise regime. They can be taken for walks everyday and healthy processes food can be given. They are described as being tenacious and stubborn when they are on the hunting regions. The temperament of the dogs varies because of their upbringing. If they are trained at a young age they grow up to be more sociable. They can be kept as a family pet also as long as they get used to all the members of the family.
They can be very guard dogs as they are fierce and they love to protect their family. They might not take lightly to strangers or people they are not used to. Children are not very safe around them unless the dogs have been bred to live with them. They need to lot of space to run around as they are quite big dogs are used to running around on rough terrains. Apartment life will not suit this dog. They have a well balanced stride and are very enthusiastic when they are given work. They are free spirited and have graceful movements. They can be very friendly, loving and fun loving dogs though they can be temperamental at times.
