There are various breeds of dogs available all over the world. The sheer variety and types of dogs makes the selection procedure very interesting. They come in all shapes and sizes. Some dogs fit into the palm of one’s hand while others are almost as tall as an average man. The differences range from colour, size, fur, length, structure etc. one more interesting variation among dogs is the hunting type. These dogs are very famous as family dogs. They have a lot of qualities that make them excellent pets.
A number of breeds that are seen now are descendants of a line of hunters. These dogs were bred to accompany and assist their masters on hunting expeditions. These dogs are naturally strong, have a good stride, strong sense of smell and powerful jaws. Among some of the famous hunting breeds is the Hungarian Vizsla. This is a breed that originated from Hungary. The Vizsla breed is a mix of the retriever-pointer breed. These two breeds are excellent hunters which have their own strong points. These strong points have manifested on the Vizsla and have made them even more capable.
The Vizsla is a package of pure muscle. The look of the dog is of aggression. They are naturally inclined to running and chasing. They used to chase small game such as fowl and rabbits. To do this needed to be very agile and fast. These traits are very popular. They are used as family dogs. One of the main characteristics of this breed is their ability to be very loyal and affectionate. They become very attached to their owners. The look of this dog is very distinctive.
They have a coat which has very less fur. It is shiny and the colour is solid golden rust. There are variations were the colour varies from copper to brown. They have a very strong facial character, showing their majesty and poise. The Vizsla is usually mistaken for another hunting breed called the Weimaraner. They Vizsla is more leaner and muscular in appearance. Their colour is also different.
Docking of the tail is a common feature of this breed. The tail is cut of two-thirds of its length. This was done to protect the tail when the dog was chasing game. The tip of the tail was prone to injury and took a long time to heal.
The Vizsla breed is a robust and active dog. They are very playful when they are pups. They do not mingle well with strangers after they are of a particular age, hence it is important to train them at a young age. The dogs need a lot of space to run around and play. They will become very irritable if they are kept indoors for a long time. They are very good swimmers as they are descendants of retrievers. Hence they love to swim time to time. They are very intelligent and need to be worked physically and mentally. The Vizsla breed lives for about 12 to 15 years.
