The Kooikerhondje or Kooiker Hound, is a small spaniel type dog breed from Dutch ancestry that was originally used as a working dog, particularly in duck hunting and tolling. Kooikers were popular in the 17th century and 18 and appeared in the paintings of Rembrandt and Jan Steen. The breed is gaining popularity in the United States and Canada, where it is still relatively unknown.
The Kooikerhondje is developed in the Netherlands around the sixteenth century to be a tolling breed. That were used to lure ducks and unity in koois (cages in the form of canals with traps at the ends), where the hunter can easily take the bird, and named this type of technique.
The breed almost became extinct after World War II until the Baroness van Hardenbroek ranging Ammerstol rescued. The breed was officially recognized only by the Dutch Kennel Club in 1971 and has since been imported into other countries and officially recognized. Race is still relatively unknown in North America and not yet recognized as a breed in the U.S. or Canada, although it has been accepted into the AKC FSS program. In the United States, both the UKC recognizes Arba and race.

In the United Kingdom, the breed has been removed from the list of import and is now eligible to enter for the Crufts Best in Show award, despite having only 76 of the race in the United Kingdom.
Some historians believe that Kooiker may have possibly played a role in the development of the Nova Scotia Duck-tolling Retriever.
