And it also does not require regular clipping. This is because it grows evenly and looks good. The under coat is also well developed. It has two predominant colours. The coat is white with big pieces of chestnut. The tips of the ear are usually dark. The tails are completely white in colour. All these colour combinations make the Kooikerhondje a very attractive dog.

These dogs are very intelligent, smart and active. Since they have a hunting background they are very robust and ready for action. Though they are strong and docile they have a very mild temperament, clam and serene. This endears them to their owners very well. One of the best features of this dog is that it is highly territorial and will bark at strangers. They need good exercise. They are good swimmers. One of their duties as hunting dogs was to flock the duck into a clearing. This required a good degree of tact and cunning. The Kooikerhondje breed was very good at this. The dog would assist the hunting very well. They are also very good retrievers. Hence they had a multi purpose role to play.
