The name is a very interesting one which is very difficult to pronounce. It literally means water dog from Romagna. It is basically a gun dog. They are excellent retrievers. They are very strong swimmers. They can grab game in their mouth and swim a long distance. This makes them very powerful and energetic. Their general behaviour is very outbound. The coat of the Lagotto Ramagnolo breed is one of a kind. It is woolly, thick and very curly. It is not long so can be managed. The head is round with it mouth more round than pointed. The colour ranges from light brown off white and white. They also show white markings as they grow. They are typically small in size ranging from 17-19 inches and weighing around 13-16 kilograms.

These dogs are hard workers. They have a very sharp sense of sight and smell. Training is a very easy affair as they are smart and ready to learn. They are very affectionate so they are very good pets. Since they are highly intelligent and full of energy they need to get loads of exercise from time to time. These dogs are used professionally as retrievers. They are used to smell out truffles. Since they are excellent swimmers they do not hesitate to dive into any type of water body and play fetch.

Grooming is a very important part of this animal. The Lagotto Ramagnolo has a very stubborn coat and needs to be maintained well. They are either brushed regularly making their coat smoother than usual. Some prefer to leave it the way it is without any brushing. The hair on the ear needs to be trimmed regularly since the ears can get infected very quickly. The hair around the eyes also need to be trimmed or else will block their vision.
