The small Munsterlander is an accomplished hunting dog. It has all the qualities of a hunting pointing and retrieving dog. This means that they are essentially a complete hunting dog. They are from the area of Munster from Germany. They small Munsterlander is a far relative of the large Munsterlander though they have a common name. The small Munsterlander resemble spaniels and setters. Though they resemble them these dogs are much more versatile.
The small Munster Lander is a very small dog. They weigh around 20 kilograms. This makes them very agile and powerful. They grow to a height of about 18 to 20 inches. They have a coat which is made of patches of solid brown on white. They have a coat which is medium length which needs to be trimmed regularly. It is smooth and needs to be brushed well after a hunting expedition.
These dogs are very temperamental and intelligent. They need a lot of dedication for training but once they have learnt their tricks they are very keen to please their owners. They have a strong instinct to hunt and it shows in their need to be exercised regularly. They need to work out for a minimum of an hour daily. They are also very strong swimmers. This is due to their retrieving nature. They form very strong bonds with their family. They are more comfortable in a home rather than in a kennel. This is because they are very sociable animals and need to be in the company people.
The history of the small Munsterlander is very illustrious. They were part of noble families and were used in various hunting expeditions. They were specialised in falconers. The dog used to point at the game for the falcon and wait for the game to be retrieved. This has changed over a period of time with the advent of guns. The dogs were then specialised as retrievers. As these dogs have an ability to hunt in various formats they form a part of all types of expeditions. Since they are good pointers, retrievers and hunters they fit in all aspects as a multi purpose dog.
