ARAB GREYHOUND
![]() |
Moroccan in origin, this greyhound descends from the great Egyptian greyhound, now extinct, and since many centuries ago it traveled along the Arabs that settled in the North of the African continent. It developed throughout Morocco for hare and antelope hunting and, currently, it is a breed with an almost diffusion almost limited to its place of origin. But it wasn’t always like this, since after the Argelian war some specimens were taken to France, which were considered as luxury dogs.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the ARAB GREYHOUND
The head is long, with a slightly defined stop, the muzzle is elongated and the nose is black, the eyes are large and almost obliquely shaped; the ears are medium, folded and rounded at the tip. The fur is very short and dense in tawny color, black and sandy in several tonalities that go from light sand to reddish or charcoal.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the ARAB GREYHOUND
It has a decided temperament, strong and independent, attached to the most direct master although it is not extroverted when demonstrating its affection. Before strangers it is clearly untrusting, for which it can be a guard dog perfectly. It is convenient that its training begins early and is firm. It is more appropriate for the field or a house with a garden, but it also adapts to the city life.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a ARAB GREYHOUND
Its cleanliness and hygiene doesn’t need special care, but it must be provided with space and time for exercise, since it is a very active animal, especially endowed for racing and it shouldn’t be allowed to have a sedentary life.
