CANAAN DOG

It is a Palestinian breed, selected to guard and take care of the area’s herds. Only known initially in the Middle East, it has taken a long time to spread outside its natural borders, but during the last years it has been bred with much acceptance in some European countries and the United States, where it is known as Canaan Dog.

It is an enormously strong breed, since the weather’s natural selection where it originated guarantees its resistance.

The Canaan Dog has considerably longer and finer limbs than other desert breeds, which can give it a fragile appearance which doesn’t correspond to reality.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the CANAAN DOG
The dog belonging to this breed has a medium size, with a square silhouette and a distinguished appearance. It keeps correct proportions and stands between 50 and 60 cm, with a weight between 18 to 25 kg. It has a balanced head in relation to the body, rounded skull, moderately defined stop and black nose. The almond shaped and dark eyes and the ears are wide, short, erect and rounded at the tip. It is very heat resistant dog, used in its origins in the desert’s dryness. Its color is sandy or black with well defined white spots.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the CANAAN DOG
Their collaboration is notable in training, without that meaning that it loses its decided and energetic temperament. For its obedience, nobility and intelligence, the Israeli army uses it was mail and in the search for the wounded. In the civilian environment, it is an excellent guard dog which adapts to the social life as long as it doesn’t develop in closed places.

CUIDADOS Y EJERCICIOS
Usually, it is a very healthy dog, which doesn’t need special care while it is not subject in very cold weather. It needs to perform a lot of daily exercise to keep in shape.
