The smooth hair-type is the most common variety of Ibizan. Some people believe there is a third type of hound. Others believe there are only two variants.
Icelandic Shepherd
This dog is unique in the fact that it is a pure breed that is to be found in Iceland alone. Vikincos, who are the first colonialists who came into this place in 874DC, took with them this dog to Iceland. This dog is very well adapted to the difficult life of Iceland. This is the reason many people believe that this dog can survive in any other part of the world.
Inca Hairless Dog
As the term suggests, this dog is hairless. Its origin is the Peruvian region. It has grown to be one of the best dog breeds there can ever be. This dog should never be confused with Xoloitzcuintli, with which they share very many features.
Irish Terrier
The Irish Terrier is a dog with its origins in Ireland. It is merely one of the many different types of terriers that are found in this country. It shares many features with these terriers and therefore it is not very distinct.
Italian Hound
The Italian hound remains one of the oldest hounds in history. Its origin can be traced to Egyptian greyhounds. During the 17th century, unorthodox methods were being used to breed this dog and therefore, some of its historic features were lost in the process. Later, the breed was enhanced through proper methods of breeding. However, this was not until a long time had passed and enthusiasm for its optimal development was waning very fast.
Its muscles are very well defined. The entire body is solid but rather thin. This dog has a characteristically slender neck while the chest is of moderate build.
Irish Water Spaniel
The Irish Water Spaniel, as the name suggests is from Ireland. It has a very stout structure and is a rather cobby breed. This means that its height is more or proportional to its length. They undergo very little shedding, if any. This makes them the top choice to people with dog allergy. The puce or liver coat has a purple tinge that is so pronounced that you might want to go to Ireland in order to have a look at it. The reason why you might want to do this is that this feature is uniquely found in this breed.
Italian Spinone
Famous painters started depicting images of this dog as early as during the middle ages. This dog has very ancient origins. Ancient documents describe this breed as a perfect hunter. This dog is only to be found in Italy. The nobility of the middle ages always appreciated this breed for its agility and grace in movement and posture. Its popularity continued through the renaissance period.
Lombary and Piamonte are the main areas in Italy where you should go in order to see very many dogs that belong to this breed.
