GREYHOUND Dog

The English greyhounds descend from the ancient Egyptian greyhounds. From Egypt it reached Greece, whereof its name Greek Hound and later to Great Britain, probably taken by the Phoenicians. During the ruling of Henry VIII, his successor, Isabel, engaged directly in the breed’s development, requesting that hare chasing championships were celebrated. It is said that it is the best pure greyhound and one of the best hunters. Carpaccio, Veronese or Van Dick were some of the painters that had greyhounds as models for their pieces.
PHYSICAL TRAITS of the GREYHOUND
The greyhound is considered the fastest in the world, being able to reach 70 km per hour, such an exploit that it has earned praise synthesized in the phrase: “The greyhound is at the dog tracks, what the Formula 1 champion is circuit”. It has a sturdy constitution, large sized and with a powerful musculature. Its height, from foot to cross, is 71 to 76 cm in males and 68 to 71 cm in females, its weigh is between 50 and 35 kg. The fur is short, fine and dense, in the colors pure white, light tawny, reddish, tabby and bluish, can be solid as well as spotted.
TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the GREYHOUND
It is a very bold and resistant dog, besides being affectionate and loyal to its owner, but indifferent with strangers. Trained for hare hunting is the best, but it can also be an excellent company dog since it is always willing to learn and, with its cheerful character, make learning a game it devotes itself with its entire interest. It is advisable that the family that adopts it has a house with a garden.
EXERCISE AND CARE required for a GREYHOUND
It would be splendid that the greyhound owner was a partner in a country club, this way his dog wouldn’t lack an opportunity to train and exercise conveniently, since it needs to run a lot. Besides the exercise, it doesn’t need special care.
Its head and neck are long, the skull is moderate; the eyes are oval, dark and oblique with an intelligent and sweet gaze. The stop is well defined, the nose is black and the ears are fine, small and folded toward the middle.
