Pont-Audemer Spaniel

These dogs are a very ancient breed of dogs and thus, just like any other ancient dog breed, the exact origin or the ancestry of these dogs are not very clear and are quite unknown. It is very often and quite popularly believed that these dogs were once sporting dogs that were developed in the Pont audemer, a region in the country of France. These dogs were developed in the 19th century. These dogs are said to be a result of the crossing between the old spaniel breed belonging to the audemer region of France and the Irish water spaniel.

These dogs are known for their excellent hunting skills. These dogs are very adaptable as well and are known to adapt very well and work very efficiently in all kinds of terrain, however, its performance in a marshy terrain is just outstandingly marvellous. These dogs are also said to make great pointing dogs are said to have accompanied a lot of hunters. These dogs were a personal favorite of the hunters. These dogs however, were not used for their pointing talents; they were used mainly for the purpose if hunting for ducks especially in the marshy lands. These dogs are very popular in their native region however, these dogs failed to gain popularity outside the country of France.

These spaniels have in them the typical spaniel dog characteristics. These dogs make outstanding hunting dogs. These dogs are not only used for hunting, they were also used as companion dogs. These dogs make wonderful companion dogs because th3y are very affectionate and very gentle as well. These dogs are born to work. These dogs are said to be very hardy, tough and also equally vigorous in nature. These dogs have the ability to withstand any kind of extreme weather conditions, this added do them being excellent hunting dogs. These dogs are very versatile in nature as well. These dos make a very firm pointer and a tenacious tracker as well. Along with this they are also very well skilled retrievers. Even though these dogs are vegetarians, they do not let this get in their way of flushing their game.

These dogs are said to be very comfortable in water. It’s quite like these dogs were born for the purpose of hunting ducks. These dogs are so good in water that they earned the name water specialists for themselves. These dogs are very energetic while hunting, however, they know how to cal down when inside the house. These dogs have a very compact body. They are quite stocky as well. These dogs have a slightly rounded skull which is topped with a rather curly top knot. They have quite a long muzzle that is slightly arching in the middle. Their muzzle looks slightly pointed; this is mainly because they have slightly let down lips. They have a pair of small eyes. Their eye color may range from dark amber to hazel color. These eyes carry a very frank and a gentle expression.
