RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK

This dog comes from meridional Africa, most likely Ethiopia, where it appeared around 500 A.C. It is respected and cared for by the towns it lives in due to its excellent contribution to economy, thanks to their impressive hunting skills. The English and Ditch colonist that emigrated in the XVI and XVII century spread them outside the African continent.

PHYSICAL TRAITS of the RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK
It is strong, fast, with defined muscles and distinguished appearance. Males in this breed stand between 63 and 68 cm, and the females between 61 and 66 cm, have an average weigh 35 kg. The most featured trait of the Rhodesian Crested is precisely the one that names it, a crest formed by its hair which is approximately 5 cm high. This crest goes from the shoulders to the hind quarters, and stands in the opposite direction of the hair growth, marking a very peculiar central line in this breed. The color is tawny in a reddish tone or lighter tawny. It is the only native breed registered in South Africa. It is also called a lion dog because, originally, they used to track lions in groups of two or three and stalk it, keeping it in place until the hunters arrived.
