Toy Manchester Terrier

Toy Manchester Terrier

This dog is considered as the one of the terrier dogs, as the name would suggest. This breed of dogs was developed from the Manchester terrier breed of dogs. The two of the breeds are quite similar, however, as the name would suggest, the toy Manchester terrier breed of dog is much smaller than the Manchester terrier breed of dogs. The toy terrier breed of dogs falls into the toy group, as done by the American kennel club and also the Canadian kennel club. The Manchester terrier however, falls in to the terrier group. Not many of the kennel clubs recognize the toy Manchester terrier as a bred separate from the Manchester terrier. The Manchester terrier was brought down to its current size in North America. The parent dog of this breed, that is, the Manchester terrier breed of dogs were said to have been developed in the late 1800s.

They were the result of a cross between other breeds of dogs such as the old black and tan terrier breed of dogs and the whippet breed of dogs, along with a few other breed of dogs as well. They were bred and developed with the main intention of hunting for rats. Even the toy Manchester terrier was developed for the same purpose, that is, for the purpose of hunting for rats. The toy Manchester terrier breed f dogs came in to existence mainly by bringing down the size of the original Manchester terrier bred of dogs. During the 1920s, in the United States of America, these toy Manchester dogs were called as the toy black and tan terrier.

The name was then changed to the toy Manchester terrier and it was after this that the American club for the toy Manchester terrier was found. This breed was recognized as different and a unique breed by the American kennel club in the year of 1938, however, their popularity did not grow and by the year of 1950, their numbers had decreased to dangerously low levels. It was due to these dangerously low numbers that this breed of dogs was re defined as only a size division of the original breed of Manchester terrier. This re defining took place in the year of 1958.

The toy breed is as the name suggests a very small sized dog. Even they have a very short size; the dogs have the presence of very long sized legs. They have the presence of a coat that is very short in length. The short length of the coat also has the presence of tan colored markings here and there on the body of the dog. They have the presence of a tail that is quite long in length and also the presence of a pair of ears that usually stand in a rather up right position. When it comes to the color of these dogs, it is quite similar to the coat colors of the Manchester terrier breed as this dog is just the smaller version of the original dog.
