Dog and Puppy Training
Once a decision of training your dog is taken, which should be done responsibly, to have a dog be a part of the family, we can’t forget that, as with a child, there will be a need for education. The animal is not able to understand as a human being, but we can make them understand things, relating them and associating them to words and gestures. A dog can be a magnificent working aid as well as a pleasant company. It’s the adopter’s responsibility to take care of the training so it doesn’t turn into a socially disturbing element. Unfortunately the number of abandoned dogs is well known: people capable of such an action should have never had one in the first place. For that, we should
always remember that we should only get a pet when we are sure we want this responsibility, accepting their care and education.
Once a puppy begins the family life it’s essential that everyone agrees to the way in which they will educate their new member, since coherency is important when giving orders. We should agree on the person who will coordinate education strategies, in which every family member will intervene, the place where it will sleep, schedules, food, games, etc.
Some of our pet’s toys can also be used in their training.
Before beginning a dog’s training, it’s most convenient to establish a friendship relationship between the animal and people that live with it, but mostly the person that will coordinate its education. This is achieves when it is still a puppy through caresses and games. Each dog has its own distinct personality and temperament, although all of them have things in common, such as sense of hierarchy, an atavistic instinct they have kept genetically. To achieve that, the first thing a trainer should do is clarify that the one in charge is him and make it understand firmly enough, but never violently. It is proven that an aggressive training produces a dangerous and violent dog. Firmness is one of the three golden rules in order to successfully train a dog; the other two are perseverance and patience, because it’s a task that takes enough time and we need to invest interest and work hours. Taking Dog Out for First Walk
When it begins going out for walks, it is best that this first training with the leash has been completed. In the street, the dog will stop many times and these stops should be respected; it will also try to impose its rhythm to its master, something the master should not allow because we can never intervene in the hierarchy order.
First Things a Dog Learns
One of the first things a dog learns is to recognize its name and to pay attention when it’s called, and this is the starting point in learning other teachings. It’s important that when a call is promptly responded, it is rewarded with a caress, smile (which it will understand) and a snack. When able to make it respond normally upon hearing its name, it is convenient to allow it to get further away so it gets used to responding, regardless of the distance.
