WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER

WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER

There is no clear evidence about this dog’s origin, as with many others. There are those that defend that in 1924, when the crossing of the breed with the Cairn terrier was allowed, the origin would be the same. The theory that this is a native breed that has suffered some morphological alterations through time seems closer to reality. What is proved is that this is a Scottish breed that proceeds from the Argyllshire and its origin ancient.

CARACTERÍSTICAS FÍSICAS
The referred morphological alterations, successive mutations through time, gave this dog a white coat that makes it visible to the distance, for which it was much appreciated when hunting fox. The external fur, with around 5 cm long, is rough and hard, while the inner coat is shorter, smooth and abundant. The head has a rounded form, with a defined stop, small ears ending in an angle and very dark and oval shaped eyes. The dog is small/medium standing at 28 cm and weighing 7 to 10 kg.

TEMPERAMENT AND ADAPTATION of the WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER
Its temperament is energetic, nice and calm at the same time; it is playful and affectionate towards children, who it loves. It shows a lot of interest for its surroundings, giving itself generously and affectionately to the family. Sometimes it can be mischievous and stubborn, but with its cheerfulness it conquers the optimal fame of a company dog. It is very easy for it to learn socialization rules. Despite that, it is convenient that its education is firm, but does not exempt congratulatory stimulus and petting. Its adaptation to the environment, whichever it is, is excellent.

EXERCISE AND CARE required for a WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER
It should be brushed deeply and frequently, especially during the shedding season. A regular bath will keep it clean and white. It is convenient to provided long walks, especially those dogs with no outdoor space available to be able to exercise and run around. It has a compact and strong body, good musculature and solid limbs.
