Patience with Dogs

While it is very true that many dogs, just like many humans, are very close to flawlessness than others, it is highly doubtful that any specific canine (or group of canines) can realistically be perceived as "flawless".

When it comes to the emotional life of human-animal relationships, flawlessness becomes a much popular goal in the eyes of the dog owner. Everyone wants to have a dog that is in good health, great confirmation, and with the perfect temperament. But does this ideal dog really exist?

A Crime of a Dog’s Attitude

It is quite amazing just how naive humans can be in their outlook towards their pet dogs. Daily, dogs are returned to pet stores from individuals who have a handful of complaints from so-called imperfections of the animal. These little flaws cause dogs to be passed from home to home without anyone taking the time to try to understand them before hoisting them off to the next family.

Young dogs that come down with a sickness or a devastating handicap are most often put to death by euthanasia rather than the owners committing the love and care to help it handle with its disease or handicap. This is considered the easy way out.

The main theory seems to be clear: "throw away the less-than-perfect dog, for he can be immediately replaced by a more perfect one... hopefully."

Realistically, Complete Perfection Is Unfeasible

If you are one of these owners who have illegitimately "thrown away" a not-so-perfect dog or puppy, then it is quite obvious that you are used to simply exchanging problems rather than getting rid them.

These pets are living beings, just like you and I, your children and your family. How in the universe can you expect each one to be flawless? Is the life of a pet not worth the extra care or attention?

Just like humans, dogs may not only come with flaws in health, they also come with complex emotional systems that may be experiencing some sort of break down at one time or another. Many pet owners give up when a dog starts to display an unwanted characteristic, whether it is physical or mental, it is then time to get rid of the dog for a replacement.

What Does It Take?

How hard can it possibly be for dog owners to start thinking of their animals as sensitive living creatures that need more love and attention than simply filling up the food dish and taking the dog out for a walk? My favorite saying is: "Dogs have rights too!"

Not only does your pet have rights to a life of love and care, no matter how many imperfect the circumstances are, he also has the right to be recognized for exactly what he is, which is a creature that is neither more flawless or less perfect than the owner that cares for it. If you don’t make it a habit of discarding your children for their flaws, your neighbors, spouse or siblings, then have the courtesy to treat your pet the same way.
